What are Tie Down Straps?
Tie Down Straps can also be called lashing straps, ratchet straps, or tie downs. They can be used in a number of different applications, but they are mainly used for securing cargo on flatbed trailers, moving trucks, pickup trucks, and other types of trailers.
There are two main types of Tie Down Straps, one piece, and two pieces. One piece straps are also called Endless Loop Straps and function just like a belt does by going around the object and coming back to itself to tighten. A two-piece strap attaches each end to something else before tightening.
What are Ratchets?
A Ratchet is a piece of hardware that allows for the tightening of webbing. They work by catching teeth on gear that only flows one way, allowing it to tighten the slack in the webbing in increments with a lever or handle. This handle allows you to leverage more force to get the strap very tight. When it is done being used there is a release mechanism that allows the gear to flow in the opposite direction.
